About Me
"You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” ― A.A. Milne
Sarah’s passion includes working with children, adolescents and adults. She specializes in working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, and addiction. Sarah brings a person-centered approach to her therapy services, working collaboratively with clients to highlight their personal strengths and values while emphasizing authenticity and empathy. Sarah utilizes a combination of cognitive behavioral and motivational interviewing interventions in accordance with what works best for her clients. She utilizes play therapy modalities when working with children. She aims to create a safe and supportive space for her clients to help them reach their goals and heal from their past.
Seeking evidence-based interventions to better help clients with trauma, Sarah became trained in the Somatic and Attachment based EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). This approach takes into consideration early attachment patterns and experiences, as well as the built-in trauma responses that become patterns for clients. This approach creates space for the client to approach distressing memories with a nonviolent approach and an emphasis on safety resources. EMDR is a body-mind integrated therapy that has been proven to be highly effective for clients who have experienced trauma.
Sarah completed her Bachelor of Science Degree at The University of Alabama in Human Development and Family Studies and minored in Addiction and Recovery. She then went to The University of Alabama at Birmingham where she earned her Master of Social Work degree. While at the University of Alabama, Sarah received training to work with individuals struggling with addiction and substance use.
When Sarah is not working, she enjoys spending time with friends, family, and her adorable dog, Penny. She enjoys taking Pilates classes, watching Netflix and going to the beach.
